2010 buick enclave review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. The enclave is aimed at the upper end of the crossover segment, with competitors that include the acura mdx, lexus rx 350 and mercedes-benz r350. what sets enclave apart is its modern cabin, with stylish illumination, crisp graphics, genuine wood trim and nice leather. The seats are comfortable, and it can be ordered with a second-row bench seat or luxurious captain's chairs, depending on whether seven- or eight-passenger capacity is needed. Smooth and practical, it's a superb vehicle. for 2010, there are only minor changes. An optional 20-inch chrome alloy wheel package with p255/55hr20 tires is available. A usb port included with premium sound systems is located in the center console and the standard onstar 8. 2 system has enhanced capabilities. lineupthe 2010 buick enclave is offered in cx and cxl trim levels, each with front-wheel drive (fwd) or all-wheel drive (awd). Enclave cxl is also available with awd 40,630). options include a trailer towing package 455), second-row center console 300), moonroof 1,400), audio, navigation and entertainment systems, wheel upgrades and paint upgrades. safety features that come standard include dual front airbags, front side airbags, side-curtain side airbags with rollover deployment, onstar emergency communications (with turn-by-turn navigation), tire-pressure monitor, anti-lock brakes and stabilitrak electronic stability control with traction control and rollover mitigation. All-wheel drive enhances safety in slippery conditions. walkaroundthe exterior design of the buick enclave is more elegant and refined than that of the gmc acadia, which is deliberately truck-like. The enclave carries the latest buick design language. All of the front lighting elements use clear lenses, with lots of different elements to please the eye and light the road. Everything under the bumper is kept simple and clean to draw the eye to that massive grille. The standard tires are 18-inches on seven-spoke alloy wheels, with 19-inch and 20-inch wheels and tires optional, and the big wheel and tire packages certainly add to the visual punch of the enclave. The roof and the side windows are done in a gracefully decreasing sweep from front to rear, accented by bright-metal roof bars that follow the roof's curvature perfectly front to back. out back, the top-hinged tailgate with standard power opening and closing is a work of art, with the rear glass extending beyond the sheetmetal into the rear opening. The rear glass is quite large, and is convex-shaped, coming to a point just above the buick tri-shield logo and above the wide-screen taillamps. Under the rear bumper is a diffuser panel and dual exhausts with bright tips, making for one of the tastiest rear-end treatments in the crossover segment. interiorthe cabin is what sets the buick enclave apart from other seven- and eight-passenger crossovers. Starting with the double-wave dashboard and instrument panel and going all the way back to the rear cargo floor, it's as modern as tomorrow and as functional as a swiss army knife. the chrome-ringed white-on-black instruments and analog clock are highly styled, with a soft blue-green illumination and halo lighting at night. The graphics are large and clear, and the wood is real. On the cxl version, the steering wheel is leather and mahogany, with 10 switches and controls mounted on it for easy use. The dead pedal on the far left of the floor is the first one we know of to be specially designed for use by women wearing high-heeled shoes. the rearview camera projects on the rearview mirror when the vehicle is not equipped with navigation. In a messy chicago winter, the camera lens became speckled with dirt and salt, making the image hard to see in the rearview mirror. A larger image on the navigation screen would have been easier to see and more helpful. Or, there's a second-row bench seat for a 2-3-3 seating scheme and a total of eight occupants. either way, the driver and front-seat passenger have power seats. The third row is usable for more than just kids; it has enough headroom for adults, and legroom is good for kids and fair for adults. Three kids will fit across, but three adults will find it tight. Only small kids will find the third row comfortable for long trips, though, because the seat bottoms sit too low to provide full thigh support. the enclave gets high marks for storage space and flexibility. There's 23. 2 cubic feet of cargo room just inside the power tailgate behind the third row, 67. 5 cubic feet with the third-row seats down and 115. 3 cubic feet with both rows folded. Up front, the enclave has storage on top of the dash for sunglasses, ipods, and cell phones. Buick claims a zero-to-60-mph acceleration time in the low eight-second-range, not bad for 5,000 pounds. By comparison, the awd cadillac escalade is rated at 12/18 mpg. The buick folks have taken dozens of time-consuming and expensive steps to quiet down the engine, transmission, all-wheel-drive system and tires, to isolate the front and rear suspensions and steering from the cabin and to wrap the entire package in sound-deadening materials in the floor, pillars and doors, all under the heading of quiettuning. Conversations between first-row and third-row occupants at 70-plus mph were heard and understood in normal speaking voices, and the xm satellite music played through loud and clear at reasonable volumes. the suspension on the enclave is far more sophisticated, far sharper in handling and far more compliant and comfortable than what we've come to expect from this class of vehicles. The rear suspension is especially effective, and uses elaborate aluminum h-arms to put the wheels out as far as possible to the corners and allow for a wide, flat load floor. bustling around on ozark mountain two-lane roads or humming down i-44 and i-64 in and around st. Louis, the enclave displayed a commendable blend of ride and handling capabilities.

2002 buick century review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. It's practical and comfortable, with a smooth ride, good performance, and predictable handling. As buick's best-selling model, century has established a large and satisfied following. the century provides the comfort of a traditional american sedan. The ride quality is soft and its v6 engine is strong but frugal. The interior design is straightforward. Its broad bench seats provide plenty stretch-out room, but bucket seats are available. lineuptwo models of the century are available: the custom 20,285) and the limited 23,285). the limited is distinguished by magnasteer variable-effort power steering, leather upholstery, cruise control, the onstar global positioning and communications system, a driver's side-impact air bag, and other luxury equipment. a special edition package adds a blacked-out grille, black door header moldings, and body-colored fascia and side moldings, heralding a long list of standard luxury equipment. The century was designed to perform its duties quietly and faithfully without drawing attention. And it does this well. with its traditional grille and roomy interior, the century is unmistakably a buick. It shares the same smooth, organic form as the more expensive buicks, but it's far less expressive. Many find this understated appearance appealing. the special edition's blacked-out grille is a gesture in the direction of european panache, and the handsome painted aluminum wheels on special edition limiteds are, for this car, almost startling. These attractive wheels make a bold styling statement against the backdrop of the car's otherwise neutral appearance. changes for 2002 are minimal. Color choices now include dark bronze mist. The cruise control has been re-engineered, and there's a new woodgrain pattern in limiteds called tortoise burl. interiorcentury's understated exterior styling theme continues inside. Instrumentation is limited to a small analog speedometer, a water temperature gauge and a fuel gauge. On the lower left and right of the dash are two circular warning-light complexes, each split three ways in pie-chart fashion. The left three warning lights indicate problems with oil pressure, battery charge or anti-lock brake circuitry. The three indicators on the right warn that the seatbelts are not fastened, the parking brake is on or the air bags are not initialized to function properly. Century comes standard with dual air bags and, oddly, a driver's side-impact bag only on limited. the six-way power seats work well and provide a generous range of adjustment. A power driver's seat is standard on all limiteds and on special edition customs. Special edition limited models get a power passenger's seat as well. In standard trim, the custom has manually operated seats; but power seats are available separately as a $350-per-seat option. In every case, both front seatbacks adjust manually. special edition models have steering-wheel-mounted audio controls. Generally, such remotes are useful, but we had some problems with this particular system. Also, the steering-wheel controls are illuminated whenever the lights are on, which is good, but after a while the lighted plastic buttons become hot to the touch. befitting a buick, the front and rear seats are roomy and comfortable, and rear headroom is excellent. The trunk is generous, as is expected of a buick. A useful cargo net is supplied with the special edition, but opening the trunk requires using a separate trunk key instead of the ignition key. This is a long-standing gm inconvenience that should have been corrected way back in the 20th century. driving impressionthe century's v6 engine provides a crisp, authoritative response. What is even more impressive about this engine is that, in addition to providing plenty of power, it also achieves excellent fuel mileage, with 20 miles per gallon in the city and a whopping 30 miles per gallon on the highway. a keynote of buick's heritage is that the big cars from flint delivered vigorous performance. The century delivers this with a 3. 1-liter v6 rated at 175 horsepower at 5200 rpm, and 195 pounds-feet of torque at 4000 rpm. It shifts smoothly, but otherwise its performance is only adequate. Kick -down response is slow when compared with the latest transmissions used in higher-priced vehicles. electronic traction control, which comes standard, reduces wheel spin for improved control on slippery surfaces. Also standard is an antilock brake system (abs), which allows the driver to maintain steering control of the car in a panic-braking situation. century's front suspension is a macpherson strut design, while its rear suspension is a multi-link independent using a coil-over strut. This setup is tuned for a soft ride when cruising on smooth, straight highways at normal speeds. But while the boulevard ride is traditional for buick, it results in undistinguished handling in any sort of vigorous maneuvering: the century leans when driven quickly through corners and it floats and wallows at high speeds over wavy surfaces. The driver feels isolated from the road. summarybuick century is modest-looking yet generously equipped. Its soft ride should also feel familiar to longtime buick owners, who are extremely loyal to the brand. but the price of that soft ride is a somewhat old-fashioned personality on the road. In this way, the century looks backward to the big american sedans of years gone by, not forward to a more international vision of an agile and balanced family car. For 2006, abs and side-curtain airbags have been made standard on all models. lineupthe buick lacrosse comes in three models. The cx and the more luxurious cxl come with a 3. 8-liter overhead-valve v6 rated at 200 horsepower. A tiny third side window behind the c-pillar adds some visual interest, while at the rear, a discernible dent in the decklid ties the taillamps together and recalls the more adventurous surface development that characterized buicks of the early 1960s. A single, slender chrome spear decorates the doors. Xm satellite radio shares a single antenna with the standard onstar system. cx models can be identified by a grained, graphite-color finish on the rocker panels underneath the doors, while this panel is body color on cxl and cxs. Otherwise, the base cx has almost no decoration at all, beyond the bolt-on faux alloy covers for its 16-inch steel wheels. construction quality looks good. Body, door, and fender gaps on the lacrosse are all noticeably smaller than on the previous regal and century models. And lacrosse's headlamps are said to be 35-percent brighter. to improve crash safety and reduce noise, buick used generous amounts of expensive, high-strength steel, a magnesium cross beam behind the instrument panel, another cross beam behind the rear seats, steel reinforcements in the rocker panels, an interlocking door latch system, high-strength steel door beams, a double-thick quiet steel floor pan and firewall, and structural foam in the front fenders. interiorthe buick lacrosse features a roomy, comfortable cabin with a general look of quality. The standard front bucket seats, clad in leather in the cxl and cxs, feature a new type of stitching, and newly developed silk-impregnated vinyl on the seat side panels emulates the look and feel of leather. rear-seat legroom is generous, thanks to a relatively long wheelbase of 110 inches. My 6-foot, 4-inch frame can sit behind a 6-foot, 4-inch driver with plenty of room to spare. interior quality and appearance are enhanced by reducing the number of individual trim pieces, which makes everything fit better and gives the cabin a richer, higher grade look. The instruments and controls are white on black, and each of the three round dials is wringed in chrome and set into a deeply tunneled instrument panel. It's all very nicely presented, and relatively sporty looking. the center stack is finished a mica-flecked flat black, with a trip computer and driver information system that's easy to put through its menu. However, the information panel is so glossy that it's hard to read in early morning or late afternoon light. Quiet tuning uses specially engineered parts and adds sound insulation in the engine, on the firewall, under the toeboard, inside the wheel wells and in the roof. Buick's quiet tuning has made lacrosse one of the quietest cars in the class. optional features upgrade this car to a cut above, making for a truly complete, safe, all-weather family car. This is an older cast-iron v6, but it's been thoroughly upgraded internally to reduce mechanical noise and features electronic throttle control. It's rated at 200 horsepower at 5200 rpm, and 230 pound-feet of torque at 4000. the newer 3. 6-liter v6 that comes on the cxs revs more freely and produces more power despite its smaller size: 240 horsepower at 6000 rpm. Its torque curve is also flatter, peaking with 225 pound-feet at 2000 rpm, but delivering 90 percent of that peak between 1500 and 6000 rpm. Mash the gas pedal and she goes. It works flawlessly. as mentioned, the lacrosse handles quite well. It has terrific body roll control, meaning it's not bouncing and yawing around when pushed harder on rural roads. The suspension used in the cx and cxs is about 20 percent stiffer than in the old regal or century, with larger stabilizer bars, so the lacrosse handles better than those cars. we found the csx more sporty to drive on winding roads in northern michigan. We later pushed one of these cars hard on some tight, bumpy canyon roads outside los angeles and found it handles quite well. The grip from the tires is tenacious. Even when squealing around curves, we found it maintained good composure, not losing its poise the way older american sedans tend to do.
