2013 ford mustang review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. With more refinements for 2013, it keeps getting better. introductionthe 2013 ford mustang features a facelift and comes out bigger, bolder, cleaner. It's a change, not just a tweak. The 2013 mustang resembles a steve mcqueen bullitt mustang, its mouth shaped more like '70 mustang than a '65.  the mustang was redesigned for 2005 and got rave reviews for its looks, totally capturing the old mustang but still looking contemporary. The styling tweaks since then have made it even better, and that holds true for the 2013 mustang.  a black eggcrate grille opens wide over the bumper, with a clean and full chin, fascia, and air intakes, and just a tidy flat-black horizontal spoiler at the lip. The triangular rear window masterfully evokes the roofline of original '65 mustang, replacing its fake louvers with glass.  we're less enthusiastic about the interior of the 2013 mustang. Reviews all end up saying that the materials are okay considering the price of the car, remember it's only a mustang, and we can't argue. The steering wheel lacks imagination, and that's disappointing.  however the cloth seats are great; cloth can easily be a deal-breaker, and in the mustang it's not. In fact, the cloth seats fit better than the leather, maybe because they grip better. The optional recaro seats in either cloth or leather are excellent. There's good head and leg room up front, and visibility through the windshield is good, especially for a low-slung coupe. There's considerably more room and better visibility in the mustang than in the chevrolet camaro.  naturally, the two-passenger rear seat is no place for adults. Rear-seat headroom is limited by the rake of the coupe roof, and leg room is minimal, even with the front seats moved forward. That comes with the territory of such a car and its shape and is a small price to be paid for such proportions.  the retro instrument panel in the v6 and gt models clings too hard to the theme, we think. Having retro instrumentation on a car with modern performance like the mustang is like having a telephone with a cord. The optional shaker audio system is acoustically superb. Ford's sync system works well to choose music, but we had trouble operating it with voice commands.  the mustang convertible has a power fabric top and glass rear window. Trunk space in the convertible is reduced to 9. 6 cubic feet, from 13. 4 cubic feet in the coupe. It's a fairly high-revving engine, reaching its horsepower peak at 6500 rpm and its torque peak at 4250 rpm, so it's good to play with. And the manual comes with hill start assist, so no worries about coasting backward when starting off on a steep hill. The automatic, meanwhile, does have a manual-shift feature it's awkward to use.  the mustang v6 is epa-rated at 19/31 miles per gallon city/highway. However, we didn't get anywhere near that, running it hard on twisty two-lanes.  mustang gt has a smooth, rumbling and growling 5. 0-liter v8 engine. That's quicker than the chevrolet camaro ss, even with its huge 6. 2-liter engine and 426 horsepower. But the mustang is 230 pounds lighter, and that makes a big difference in acceleration, also handling.  the boss 302 makes 444 horsepower with the same engine. However the boss has non-retro instrumentation, that's way cleaner. And it's a boss 302.  brakes are good. Ford engineers have revised the braking system of the flex, taurus, and mustang, and the feel is powerful without being overly sensitive. The names of the modes are apt. Comfort mode kept the ride comfortable when driving over rough pavement, sport mode improved responsiveness on winding roads. We found the electronic stability control effective without being intrusive.  the 650-horsepower shelby gt 500 joins the 2013 mustang lineup. Also standard are a 2. 73 rear axle ratio, 17-inch aluminum wheels, electronic power steering, stainless steel dual exhaust, hid headlamps, led taillamps, capless fuel filler, manual air conditioning, tilt steering wheel with controls, cloth seats, and 50/50 rear folding seats (not convertible).  the v6 performance package includes a strut-tower brace, larger front sway bar and svt rear sway bar, stiffer front springs, upgraded brake calipers with performance pad, 19-inch painted aluminum wheels, 255/40r19 summer-only tires, higher stability control calibration, black side mirrors, 3. 31 rear axle, and unique engine cover (manual transmission only). There's also an equipment package 295) and tech package 1295). For the premium models, there's a comfort package and electronics package.  mustang gt models use a 5. 0-liter v8 making 420 horsepower and 390 foot-pounds of torque, with the same transmission selection, 3. 73 rear axle, and 18-inch aluminum wheels. Equipment and options closely match the v6 packages. The premiums have reclining front bucket seats, a shaker audio system, and ambient lighting.  boss 302 uses a pumped-up version of that v8, with 444 hp and 380 foot-pounds, and 19-inch aluminum wheels. Recaro cloth is optional, as is a laguna seca track package 6995).  shelby gt 500 coupe and convertible mean business with a 650-horsepower and 600-foot-pounds 5. 8-liter supercharged intercooled v8, mated to a tremec 6-speed manual transmission, with 6-piston brembo calipers on 14-inch front rotors. Bilstein electronic adjustable dampers, 3. 31 rear axle ratio, torsen differential, black-vented aluminum hood, gt 500 striping, and shelby cobra front fascia, splitter, and spoiler. Also creature comforts such as leather seats, ambient lighting, lcd message center, suede steering wheel, satellite radio. Extra oil coolers, aerodynamics, and 20-inch wheels.  safety equipment on all mustangs includes front and front side airbags, stability control, anti-lock brakes, tire pressure monitor, and ford's mykey system, which allows car owners (parents) to limit the speed and sound system volume, when they hand the keys over to others (teenagers). walkaroundthe looks of the mustang keep evolving nicely. It was the best looking of the reborn retro machines when it was redesigned in 2005, and it's only gotten better looking since then.  for 2013, mustang gets another facelift, with a stronger and cleaner grille and front fascia, incorporating the air intakes and doing away with all the flat-black plastic from before. New hid projector-beam headlamps have two led streaks at their sides, a look that will take getting used to.  the sequential led taillamps are another matter, instantly pretty on the nice rear end that's true to '65 mustang. At the rear, there's new body-colored fascia on the 2013 mustang, again replacing flat black pieces (good riddance). Another improvement for 2013 is the loss of the flat-black rockers; they're now body-colored and grownup. And there are many new wheel designs for 2013.  overall, the 2013 mustang looks tougher and more mustangy than ever. The combination of open-mouthed grille and bulging hood gives the 2013 mustang muscular distinction. The gt boasts real black vents, in the bulging hood over its beefy 5. 0-liter v8. The chrome mustang galloping horse logo against the black eggcrate grille, on the base v6 model, also looks hot, and traditional. The foglamps go inside the grille like bookends on the silver horse, also just like 1965.  the sideview mirrors do something cool: when the unlock button on the remote is pressed, an image of a galloping horse in white led light appears on the ground like a spotlight on a stage.  the small triangular rear window is a stroke of design brilliance, and makes the roofline sleek. It's wonderfully and totally true to the 1965 mustang fastback, which used vertical fake louvers in that triangular roofline sweep.  the twin wide stripes on the 2013 shelby gt that's coming in summer of 2012 are classic. Some of the other graphics packages are dubious. Anti-lock Brakes✔ Bucket Seats✔ Air Conditioning✔ Leather Seats✔ Aluminum Wheels

2008 ford focus review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Developed with microsoft, sync provides a hands-free link to cell phones and mp3 players through a series of voice commands. It can even read text messages to occupants through the stereo system. It's an amazing system and ford appears to be ahead of everyone else in this area.  the redesigned interior is aesthetically pleasing. It looks better than that of the outgoing model, with nicer graining on the plastics that continue to dominate the cockpit. The ambience is not luxurious but appropriate for the price. While interior noise is also down from the last model, there is still plenty of road and engine noise, which are typical of economy cars.  as in the past, the focus handles well. We experienced lots of road feel with little body lean in corners while driving the top-line ses with its a sportier suspension. That road feel can make the ride a bit harder than some might prefer, but it isn't harsh and we appreciated the handling response.  with 140 horsepower, the focus has decent power for most needs, but passing on a busy two-lane road will require a lot of space. Options for s include cruise control 215), sirius satellite radio 195), and a temporary spare tire 60).  the se coupe 15,075) and sedan 15,375) add power windows, locks and mirrors; remote keyless entry; vehicle message center; and aluminum alloy wheels. Leather upholstery 695) is optional, and the ses is available with the se options.  safety features that come standard consist of dual-stage front airbags; torso-protecting, seat-mounted front side airbags; head-protecting side curtain airbags; tire pressure monitor; and latch-style child seat anchors. The result is at best conservative and at worst awkward and dull.  the front end is dominated by a two-bar version of the three-bar, razor-like chrome grille that first appeared on the fusion. The grille is flanked by headlights that wrap around to the sides and follow the curve of the hood toward the windshield. A too-large expanse of bumper is located under the grille and below that is a large air intake that houses fog lights at the corners on the topline ses model.  the sides feature a chromed triangular applique at the back of each front fender that simply seems like tacked on ornamentation. This piece, which looks like an f on the driver's side, is the starting point for a pair of character lines that flow back. The bottom line leads to the rear wheelwheel, while the top line rises from front to rear and teams with a high tail to give the focus the appearance of at least some dynamic motion. The rear of the coupe's roofline stays almost as high as the sedan's, which makes it look a bit clunky. The car looks best from the rear, where the simple angular shapes seem to work.  the overall result is a look that seems like a poor attempt at a family design statement. interiorinside the ford focus is an aesthetically pleasing cockpit. The dashboard is dominated by a shiny plastic silver inset that covers the middle of the dash and leads into the center console. This is surrounded by black plastic top and bottom. There are no soft-touch materials here, but the graining looks nicer than it did in last year's model. The center console is deep, though not especially wide.  on top of the dash is a hooded cutout that displays trip computer, radio, and, when ordered, sync information. The instrument panel has two large gauges, the speedometer and tachometer, and two small gauges, the fuel gauge and water temperature gauge. Along the top are buttons for 10 radio station presets. When sync and sirius satellite radio are ordered, drivers can store up to 60 stations: 20 fm, 10 am and 30 sirius. An easy-to-use set of climate controls is located below the stereo and sync controls. None of these buttons are hard to identify or reach.  at the base of the center stack is a nice rubberized tray. This area is fairly important because it is where drivers will keep their phones and ipods when they use the sync system. We found sync to be genuinely useful and fairly easy to use. When an mp3 player is plugged in, sync charges it and has access to the complete playlist. The driver can tell sync to play a specific song, artist, or genre of music from his mp3 player. When a bluetooth-enabled phone is in the car and paired to the system, sync can access its phonebook. It can even play back incoming text messages through the speakers and allow the driver to respond with one of 15 predetermined messages, all while the driver keeps his hands on the wheel. There are a couple glitches, though. I couldn't get the system to recognize 'kirk.' instead it heard my name as 'curt,' which is another number in my cell phone. And in general, the system is a bit tricky to learn at first.  the front seats are comfortable, with plenty of head and leg room. Thanks to large mirrors and small rear pillars, the driver's seat affords a good view to all corners. The rear seat has decent room with shorter people up front, but leg room disappears as the seats are moved back for taller front seat occupants. Head room is decent in the sedan, but a bit lacking in the coupe.  the trunk is fairly large at 13. 8 cubic feet. That's as big as or bigger than some midsize cars. The second row seats fold mostly flat to allow loading long, flat packages. This focus, though different in appearance, is basically that same car, which means it still handles well.  we drove the 2008 focus ses and found a lot of road feel is communicated through the steering wheel. There is little lean in turns; after an initial shift, it takes a nice set. The ses model benefits from the addition of a rear stabilizer bar for sharper handling. We have not driven the base model.  good road feel means the ride quality is a bit harder than some might prefer. But the focus isn't a penalty box. With the manual transmission the focus gets an epa-rated 24/35 mpg city/highway. With the automatic, it gets a healthy 24/33mpg.  the 2. 0-liter is competitive with most engines in this class. It has decent power for most needs, but passing maneuvers will require plenty of space.

2004 ford mustang review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Celebrating 40 years. introductionit's time to celebrate! The ford mustang turns 40 next year. On april 17, 1964, the first mustang rolled onto the streets. Performance and style were its hallmarks and folks loved its long hood, short rear deck, and low profile.  anticipating next year’s milestone, every 2004 mustang will have 40th anniversary badges on the front fenders. They also get special exterior and interior upgrades. Wind noise has been reduced on 2004 models through the use of improved sealing, and both the v6 and v8 engines benefit from some minor refinements.  after all these years, the mustang still represents affordable performance and style. A base coupe, for example, retails for just $17,720 and cash incentives can knock a big chunk off of that. Mustang convertibles are popular and attractively priced.  mustang gt models are a hoot to drive with their 260-horsepower v8 engines. Just don't expect sophisticated ride and handling. The mach 1 returns for 2004, boasting a 310-horsepower twin-cam v8, a sports suspension, and a shaker hood designed to remind us of the famous 1969 fastback. Production of the 2004 mach 1 will be limited, however.  an all-new 2005 ford mustang is expected to go on sale in mid-2004. lineupbase models come with a v6 engine. High-performance gt models are powered by a v8. Each is available in coupe and convertible body styles. Convertibles feature a power top with a scratch-resistant glass rear window. A black semi-hard boot protects the top and gives the mustang a clean look with the top down.  every 2004 mustang will have 40th anniversary badges on the front fenders. In addition, a new 40th anniversary package, a no-cost option, adds exterior and interior upgrades to v-6 and gt models. Convertibles are available with an upgraded medium parchment soft retractable top that’s more durable and sound resistant.  the mustang coupe 17,720) and mustang convertible 23,455) come standard with a 3. 8-liter v6, an overhead-valve engine rated 190 horsepower at 5250 rpm and 220 foot-pounds of torque at 2750 rpm. Abs and traction control 730) are optional, but we highly recommend them to help avoid accidents.  reclining cloth front bucket seats come standard. Leather-trimmed front bucket seats 595) are optional. Mustang coupes get 50/50 split-folding rear seatbacks. Standard equipment on all mustangs includes air conditioning, power windows and door locks, tilt-steering column, a floor console, remote keyless entry system and interval windshield wipers. Mustangs come with standard, deluxe, and premium trim packages. Deluxe 730) adds a rear spoiler, color-keyed floor mats, six-way power driver's seat, and speed control. Premium 1,385) comes with all that plus a six-way power driver's seat and a leather-wrapped steering wheel.  the mustang gt coupe 23,245) and mustang gt convertible 27,585) come with a 4. 6-liter v8 with single overhead cams and two-valves per cylinder rated at 260 hp at 5250 rpm and 302 lbs.-ft. Of torque at 4000 rpm. To manage all that power, gt models are equipped with gas-pressure shocks with unique model calibrations, p245/45r17 performance tires on 17-inch alloy painted wheels, a traction loc rear axle, abs and traction control. Gts come with sport bucket seats and fog lamps. The v8 mates with a tremec five-speed manual gearbox with a tall fifth gear for improved fuel economy. Mach 1 gets a sports suspension (stiffer springs, special shocks and struts, lower ride height). Distinguished by its black shaker hood, the mach 1 5,575) is treated as a package. It also comes with special 17-inch wheels, special leather-trimmed seats, special interior trim, in-dash six-disc cd stereo, and special exterior graphics.  the cobra is powered by the supercharged svt 4. 6-liter v8 from ford's special vehicle team. The svt v8 produces 390 horsepower at 6000 rpm, with 390 pounds-feet of torque at 3500 rpm. It comes mated to a six-speed manual gearbox. Cobra comes shod with p275/40r17 tires and loaded with special interior and exterior trim.  standard safety equipment includes safety belts with pretensioners to tighten the lap belt and shoulder belts in the first moments of a crash. Energy-management retractors gradually slacken the safety belt if necessary to help reduce the force of the belt on the occupant's chest. The rear fender air intake, for example, has sharp corners and pronounced lines; but the rocker panels curve out, and the fenders have pronounced front and rear wheel well arches. The front end features wraparound complex reflector headlamps with integrated side marker lamps, combined with a square-edged honeycomb grille and a chrome pony. Tricolor front fender badges recall the good old days, as does the prominent but non-functional hood scoop. In back, it's 1965 with vertical, three-element taillamps.  gt models get unique hood and side-scoop treatments, along with fog lights and a rear spoiler.  mach 1 is easy to spot with special trim that starts with its shaker hood scoop. Attached directly to the top of the engine, the black scoop rears its head through a squarish hole in the mach 1 hood. (hood scoops on gt models sit on top of the hood.) a bold low-gloss black stripe runs up the center of the powerdome hood to accentuate the scoop. In theory, the scoop is designed to channel fresh air into the intake for increased breathing and, therefore, increased power.  the 40th anniversary package, a no-cost option for 2004 mustangs, is distinguished by arizona beige metallic performance stripes on the hood, lower rocker panels and deck lid. Arizona beige metallic accents upgraded wheels (16-inch for the v-6 and 17-inch bullitt wheels for the gt). The 40th anniversary models are available in an exclusive crimson red exterior, as well as black and oxford white, with body-colored, fold-in side mirrors. interiorthe mustang cockpit is a little quieter for 2004. New expandable foam seals designed to reduce wind noise are used around the body, particularly the outside door handles and belt moldings on both doors.  convertibles and coupes offer about the same amount of room in the front seats. Either way, it's a cozy interior. There's enough seat-track length to accommodate tall drivers and just enough elbowroom to keep from feeling cramped. Seatbelts are attached to the seat frames so they move with the seats. The package includes unique floor mats with an embroidered 40th anniversary logo and a matching badge on the center console.  the mach 1 tachometer and speedometer use a tall condensed typeface and more hash marks that make it harder to read than the gauges in the gt models. The instrument panel, center console and headliner are color-keyed. To turn on the headlights, pull out an old-fashioned knob on the left. The center console includes cup holders.  svt cobra models offer front bucket seats with nudo leather trim and suede inserts. The driver's seat features six-way power with power-adjustable thigh and side bolsters, and power lumbar support. Clearly, these seats are made for serious, fast driving. Switches are on the right-front corner of the seat. The svt instrument cluster has been redesigned to include a boost gauge. The gauges feature titanium-colored faces and electroluminescent lighting. The cobra's gearshift knob is leather-wrapped, with a brushed-aluminum insert on the top, inscribed with the six-speed pattern. Metal-trimmed pedals and dead pedal are standard.  the back seat is small, with only enough room for small objects or kids. Convertibles have even less hip and shoulder room than coupes, but about the same headroom and legroom.  the trunk is small with an even smaller opening. Coupes hold just under 11 cubic feet worth of cargo, while convertibles hold just 7. 7 cubic feet. A split fold-down rear seat is standard and handy for hauling cargo. driving impressiondriving the ford mustang confirms it is a throwback to another era. A mustang gt has more than enough power to break the rear wheels loose. The firm suspension transmitted freeway undulations, and there is some side-to-side jouncing on rough surfaces, but this car makes us feel happy.  the engine sounds so good, so deep and thunderous, it might be the most enjoyable thing about the car. With the camaro/firebird gone, they just don't make them like this any more. Tachometer✔ Power Windows✔ Bucket Seats✔ CD Changer✔ Air Conditioning

2005 ford mustang review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Exciting new model revives the ponycar. introductionthe ford mustang has been the icon of american performance since its 1964 introduction, popular for its bold style, rear-wheel drive performance and affordable price. The mustang started the ponycar genre, and now, after 40 years of competition with the camaro, firebird and others, it's the only one left.  the new mustang represents a clean-sheet design, riding on an all-new platform. It's faster, more agile and better looking than ever. The mustang gt boasts a new multi-valve, overhead-cam v8 that produces 300 horsepower and is available with a tremec five-speed manual or an automatic. lineupthe new mustang is being offered in coupe and convertible versions, though the convertibles won't be available until spring 2005. The premium package 585) adds 16-inch bright machined aluminum wheels with chrome spinners, a new shaker 500-watt audio system with 6-disc cd changer and mp3 capability, and a 6-way power adjustable driver seat.  mustang gt 24,370) features a new 300-horsepower 4. 6-liter sohc v8. Options on all mustang gts include the five-speed automatic transmission 995), side-impact air bags 370), 17-inch machined aluminum wheels 195), active anti-theft system 255), a shaker 1000-watt audio system 1,295), an interior upgrade package 450), and an interior color enhancement package 175). walkaroundnothing says modern american sporty car better than this new mustang. Its long hood and short rear deck capitalize on 40 years of mustang history. The new mustang features classic design cues that have defined mustangs since the 1960s: c-scoops in the sides, three-element taillamps and a galloping horse badge in the center of the grille. Its menacing shark-like nose is reminiscent of the 1967 model.  the new mustang is based on a modified version of the platform that underpins the lincoln ls, the jaguar s-type, and the ford thunderbird, but with a new three-link live-axle rear suspension installed in place of the irs under the luxury cars in order to keep the price down (the original idea was to offer the irs as standard equipment, but it will likely be on the cobra version when it comes). Ford reasons that more mustang fans will favor the solid-axle rear suspension for their recreational track days and drag racing.  everything under the car has been upgraded substantially from previous mustang levels: bigger brakes by nearly 20 percent, completely new front and rear suspension designs that yield much quieter, smoother ride as well as much more precise steering and harder cornering, two new engines, two new transmissions, and a large-diameter (2. 5 inches from end to end) performance exhaust system. There's nothing left of the old mustang but the logos. Optional anti-lock brakes bundled with traction control give any driver much more of a fighting chance in bad situations.  both new engines are mounted to their bodies with hydraulic engine mounts, which absorb and counteract vibration and pulsing, and the combination of the engine and transmission bolted together, is stiffer than previous designs, which should also add to quietness. The car absolutely bristles with other new technologies.  the mustang heritage of low-cost performance and flashy styling has not been compromised one iota by putting the new car on the platform that ford used to call the cdw. By adapting lots of ideas and components from luxury cars like the jaguar s-type, lincoln ls, and thunderbird that were previously built on the cdw model, they have given the mustang a whole new level of sophistication that no mustang before it ever had. There's a very heavy dose of 1967 mustang interior design, with two distinct right and left pods. Because of the longer wheelbase and larger overall size, there is a lot more hip, leg, elbow and shoulder room inside this mustang that in any previous generation mustang.  in addition to the slick new interior decor, the new mustang has the industry's first color-changeable instrument panel display, with 125 color schemes to choose from. And, speaking of brightening, there is more shiny metal on the interior, including the vent rings, steering wheel spokes and other bits, and on sunny days, that can cause some vision and glare problems for the driver.  we found the front bucket seats to be comfortable, supportive and retentive in hard corners, and in general, the interior looks like it belongs in a much more expensive car. There is an interior upgrade package that adds red leather seats, red door inserts and red floor mats on cars with appropriate exterior colors. Another package adds real aluminum trim to the interior for one more customization step.  the basic sound system that comes with the car is pretty darn good, but in this day and age of pervasive music, there has to be more, more wattage, more speakers, more power. The ride has smoothed out, and the remaining harshness is of a completely different order. The new rear suspension uses coil springs and a lightweight three-link design with a panhard bar and other locators to keep things constant.  the new 4. 0-liter v-6 engine has more technical sophistication than any previous ford v-6. It is a very solid performer in urban, exurban and suburban duties, and the ratios in the automatic seem well matched to the available torque. When the automatic transmission gets into overdrive fifth gear, the engine goes quietly into economy mode until called upon for a lane change, a pass, or an uphill charge. But it's still a large-displacement v-6 and it sounds more muscular at full throttle than any previous ford v-6 engine.  the v-6 deluxe is the most popular model; ford says that for every three gts sold, it will sell seven of the v-6 versions. At this low price, we were particularly impressed with its power, torque, acceleration, and general road manners, including its pretty, rorty exhaust note. The new three-valve v-8 engine features both variable camshaft timing and electronic throttle control, with a new set of smarter, faster-acting engine electronic controls. It will run 0-60 mph in about 5. 5 seconds, it will outbrake a large number of sporty cars with its big new brakes, and it handles better on canyon roads that any previous mustang except the cobra, with a minimum of body roll and a large portion of tire grip.  it looks mean, and it drives mean, with 320 pound-feet of torque, a slick shifter, a brawny, loud exhaust note, and one of the world's largest aftermarket networks
