2013 hyundai sonata review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Sonata delivers excellent quality in all of its iterations, with great manners, fuel efficiency and features, all at a competitive price. Sonata was completely redesigned for the 2011 model year. the 2013 hyundai sonata gets an updated navigation system and slight adjustments to the standard feature list, depending on the model. Many other critics have praised sonata's look, however, and if it's confused with any other sedan, it's more likely to be mistaken for a lexus or some other luxury model than for another mainstream mid-size. inside, features, materials and fit and finish are among the best in the class, especially in build quality and tolerances. the 2013 sonata lineup starts with the sonata gls, which retails for about $21,000 and comes with a full complement of power features, cruise control, bluetooth connectivity and more power than other cars in its class. Another $825 adds heated front seats, automatic light control, fog lights and 16 inch alloy wheels. The 2. 0t, as hyundai calls it, satisfies america's perceived need for speed with 274 horsepower and excellent acceleration on regular-grade gas. While such an occurrence will be rare in the real world, the hybrid's blended gas-electric operation still improves fuel economy, with higher mileage ratings than similar hybrids from honda and toyota. Moreover, while the other hybrids in this class have a gearless, continuously variable transmission, the sonata hybrid gets the same 6-speed automatic as the other sonata models. The gls is equipped with air conditioning, a full complement of power features, 60/40 split-folding rear seat and a six-speaker, 104-watt audio system with single cd and satellite radio with a three-month subscription. The standard wheels are 16-inch steel with plastic covers. Hybrid features and options essentially mirror those of the se model. beyond the packages, options are limited to dealer-installed features such as remote start 350), rear spoiler 250) and rearview mirror with homelink garage-door control 250). safety features standard on all models include front-impact airbags, driver and front passenger side impact airbags, front and rear seat head-protection curtains, anti-lock brakes (abs) with electronic brake-force distribution (ebd) and brake assist, electronic stability control, active front-seat head restraints and a tire-pressure monitor. Hyundai's blue link crash-reporting telematics system comes standard, too, with a temporary subscription to basic services. The similarity says something about the styling department's intentions with hyundai's most popular sedan. the sonata is marketed as a mid-size, but its exterior dimensions push the larger limit compared to the toyota camry, honda accord and ford fusion. Indeed, measured by total enclosed space, the sonata sneaks in at the bottom of the government's large-sedan class. hyundai's designers throw around phrases like 'fluidic sculpture design language' and 'monoform side profile' in describing the sonata's styling. They say their goal was a car that won't be mistaken for any other. It's just that the sonata is not necessarily unique, and it's not as clean or sleek as the kia optima sedan, which shares its basic structure. the front end on most sonata models has a pinched nose look echoing the hyundai genesis coupe. Sculpted creases flow forward and inward from the a-pillars (the windshield's side frames), drawing the eye to the grin like grille and outsized hyundai logo. Headlight housings start at the outer edges of the grille and wrap around the front fenders beyond the leading arch of the wheelwell, visually minimizing the front overhang. The lower fascia sports a wide mouth air intake flanked by squinting recesses for fog lights. The grille is body colored on the base gls, and dark chrome on the se and limited. the hybrid's front end shows much of the same shapes and sculpting, but gets an entirely different and quite striking grille treatment, with an oversized, hexagonal opening split by an oversized horizontal bar. Hyundai wants everyone to know that this sonata is something special. The hybrid's headlights make a similar statement, highlighted with a string of led running lights laced around the projector beam lenses. the side view of the sonata shows three sharply defined character lines below the roof. The roof itself tracks though a severely raked windshield and rear window and into a short trunk lid, minimizing the car's visual mass. The highlight is a chrome strip that starts at the headlight housing and runs along the car's beltline (where the side windows meet the door panels) all the way to the rearmost tip of the rear quarter glass. Below this is a knife edge crease sweeping up from the front quarter panel through the door handles, finishing as an eyebrow for the taillight housings. another knife edge crease cuts across the bottom of the doors just above the rocker panels, before leapfrogging the rear wheelwells to melt into the rear bumper. On the hybrid, a chrome strip accents this crease. All three tire sizes fill perfectly circular wheelwells, giving the sonata a balanced front to rear proportion. the rear view might be sonata's cleanest and best. It's an elegant look, with understated taillights, a minimalist chrome bar topping the license plate indent and a lower bumper element that mirrors the front fascia

Accent is surprisingly refined for such an inexpensive car and 2003 models come standard with a gutsy twin-cam 1. 6-liter engine. new styling gives the 2003 hyundai accent a fresh, appealing look. Nearly all of its body panels have been redesigned, making it appear softer, yet more alert. It comes in hatchback and sedan styles. a new accent gt promises sportier handling with a sport-tuned suspension and more aggressive wheels and tires. It looks ready for action with 14-inch aluminum wheels, fog lamps, body sill moldings, and a rear deck lid spoiler. Accent comes standard with an am/fm/cassette stereo, tachometer, center console, vanity mirror, tilt steering, intermittent wipers and a 60/40 split folding rear seat. It only comes as a hatchback equipped with a five-speed manual transmission. accent gl adds air conditioning, tinted glass, and a digital quartz clock, and upgrades to the stereo, seats, console, and carpet. Both come standard with a five-speed manual gearbox. There's more expression in the accent's face, and a cute quality we find appealing. around back hyundai has replaced the rear quarter panels, deck lid, tail lights, and bumper for 2003. Again, the overall look is softer, while the taller tail lights suggest action. the overall form of the hyundai accent is a low-slung wedge topped by a steeply raked windshield and a tall wrap of window glass. There's a fast slope to the front hood and a brief back deck. The three-door model is shaped more like a sedan than a traditional hatchback. Hyundai calls it a hatchback coupe. . interiorhyundai accent was designed to maximize interior room. Its tall windows, generously sized bucket seats and multi-level console all contribute to an overall impression of spaciousness. Front passengers do not feel squeezed into a tiny cubbyhole as they do in some subcompact cars. those form-fitting front bucket seats feel substantial and supportive. Packed with high-density foam, they feature swoopy indentations and firm side bolsters. The driver's seat is comfortable, and adjusts to fit even a tall frame. High off the floor, it provides excellent visibility through those tall windows all around. the front seats in gl models move in multiple ways to conform for leg length, seat height, lumbar curve, seatback tilt and headrest position. Also, the driver's seat on gl editions provides a right-side armrest that folds up and out of the way when not needed. Three-point seatbelts adjust for height. The curvaceous front door panels include an integrated armrest and a generous map pocket low near the floor. the instrument panel orients the driver with large gauges set immediately forward of the steering wheel. These consist of a speedometer and tachometer, with flanking dials indicating fuel level and engine temperature. On base and gl models, white markings and red pointers over a dark gray field ensure an attractive appearance and easy readability. Accent gt opts instead for fashionable white-faced gauges. the surfaces of the doors and dash, coated in soft-touch synthetic material, feel refined, even sophisticated, which is unexpected for the class. The gt adds leather coverings for the steering wheel and shift knob. all controls are close at hand, logical, and easy to operate. Large and easy-to-use rotary knobs for the audio and climate systems are stacked at the middle of the dash. The glove box is an ice-chest-size bin that drops down from below the passenger-side airbag, looking as though it could swallow a couple of six-packs of soda. the back bench provides three-point belts and bucket-style spaces for outboard riders, plus a two-point belt on the center hump. The seatback splits 60/40 and folds to increase the capacity of the flat-floored trunk. . driving impressionhyundai accent accelerates briskly, rides smoothly, and is surprisingly quiet. The bigger engine provides more power to an already zippy car. compared to the old 1. 5-liter engine's 92 horsepower at 5500 rpm, the twin-cam 1. 6-liter produces 104 horsepower at 5800. More important, the 1. 6-liter generates 106 pounds-feet of torque at just 3000 rpm, instead of 97 pounds-feet for the 1. 5-liter. That means a faster launch into traffic, where the accent easily keeps pace. we found the accent relatively quiet inside. Cars are getting heavier and heavier these days, but apparently hyundai didn't get the memo. That's a good thing, as weight is bad for acceleration, stopping distances, handling, and fuel economy. The accent's favorable power-to-weight ratio combines with slippery aerodynamics and well-selected gear ratios that make the most of the engine's torque. accent handles mountain switchbacks with a poise and agility unexpected from such a low-rung economy car. Hyundai's smallest product is actually fun to drive. And we're talking about the base model; we haven't yet sampled the sportier gt. accent's relatively long wheelbase and all-independent suspension provide a smooth-riding platform. Yet it responds quickly to the driver's demands. Steering geometry is optimized with a high caster angle, to reduce front-end lift when accelerating, or nose-dive during braking. A front anti-roll (stabilizer) bar reduces body lean when cornering. To isolate noise and vibration, all of the front end's mechanical parts are attached via a sub-frame. That kind of sophisticated engineering is rarely found in this price-conscious class, and it helps temper road noise. . summaryhyundai accent does not behave like the bottom-dollar economy car that its low price tag implies. A 60,000-mile bumper-to-bumper protection plan shields the owner against a variety of problems, while the powertrain is warranted for 100,000 miles. A compact crossover suv, the tucson is shorter in length but slightly wider than its chief rivals, the honda cr-v, ford escape and subaru forester. The tucson is available with front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive. for 2011, the hyundai tucson lineup includes a new value-priced tucson gl with a smaller, more fuel-efficient 2. 0-liter engine and front-wheel drive. The 2011 tucson gl rates an epa-estimated 23/31 city/highway mpg when equipped with its optional 6-speed automatic transmission. The gls and limited come standard with the 6-speed automatic. This compact, extremely light transmission places hyundai in an elite group of manufacturers who have built their own 6-speed automatic. It's excellent ergonomically, meaning everything is easy to reach and operate. The materials are nice. The seats are supportive and comfortable. And the tucson skillfully tricks the eye, to its benefit. Just as the huge audi q7 manages to appear smaller and more athletic than it is, the new tucson does just the opposite. Its high beltline and squinty side-window configuration make the tucson appear larger and more capacious than it really is. Tucson gl comes standard with the 5-speed manual but is available with hyundai's 6-speed automatic transmission 19,745). All-wheel drive is optional. walkaroundthis crossover suv is nothing if not modern. The hyundai tucson takes advantage of the current european taste for dynamic thrusting forms and aggressive angularities. It has swoopy lines darting to and fro along its flanks, nose and tail. A huge, deeply slanted windshield provides excellent forward perspective for the driver, but for rear seat passengers, looking out of the tucson's narrow side windows is a little like peering out the gun slit of an armored car. and there will be those who find the tucson's exterior a little busy looking, while others will find that standing next to the tucson and looking down its door sides, it looks oddly slab-sided, bigger and heavier than it really is. as always, there is ample room for debate about the tucson's styling. The one point that is not debatable is this crossover's high expectations. Its styling is up to the minute, as aggressive as any crossover in the world market. The front seats are excellent both in terms of firm support and quality leather. Back seat room is lavish for two, adequate for three. This hyundai gets an a-plus in the avoiding annoyances category. the dashboard's black pebble-grain covering is handsome and anything but econo class. The dashboard instruments are straightforward and dignified, with a water temperature and fuel gauge delivered in electronic readouts. To the left of the steering column are controls for hill assist, a stability-control off switch and the differential locker control. Cruise control and audio switches are provided on the steering wheel, with phone controls partially hidden inside the wheel rim. the center console is simply laid out, offering audio controls, a navigation system and bluetooth mp3 capability. Here we encountered one weakness in the tucson, its forward-slanting navigation screen was all but blinded by glare on sunny days. On the other hand, it is blessedly straightforward to use, with a proper radial knob provided for tuning the audio. Defrost front and rear and individual seat-heater controls are easily selected, while xm is the satellite server of choice, and it should be. Life should always be this easy. But in too many other cars, it isn't. The 2. 4-liter engine is rated 176 horsepower at 6000 rpm and 168 pound-feet of torque at 4000 rpm. Fuel economy for the 2. 4-liter tucson engine is 22/31 mpg with front-wheel drive. the hyundai-designed 6-speed automatic transmission is smooth-shifting and excellent, giving the tucson a big advantage in efficiency over other vehicles in its class. Additionally, its manual shifting capability is particularly good. The 2. 0-liter produces 165 horsepower at 6200 rpm and 146 pound-feet at 4600. We haven't driven the tucson gl with the 2. 0-liter engine. As the gl is not significantly lighter than the gls, we have to suspect that performance suffers accordingly. The environmentally friendly accent is an ultra low emissions vehicle, or ulev, and rates 33 mpg in the latest, 2008 epa highway tests. Six airbags (front, seat-mounted side-impact, and side-curtain) are standard on all models; antilock brakes with electronic brake-force distribution are optional on the sedan and standard on the sporty se coupe. The accent and the related kia rio are among the least expensive cars on the market with these important safety features. hyundai last redesigned the accent sedan for 2006, and released the latest coupe that spring. While the sedan brings some suave to the entry-level family segment, the coupe is clearly seeking street cred, offering hip accessories ranging from a strut-tower brace to faux carbon-fiber trim. new for 2008, all audio systems include xm satellite radio with a three-month subscription, and an auxiliary audio input jack. There's a new instrument cluster available, and a new alloy wheel design for sedans. 2008 accent se coupes come with a b&m sport shifter, plus a rear center armrest with cupholders, and coupes are now available in mellow yellow. we think people in the market for small, practical, but hardly spartan car should consider the hyundai accent alongside the best from the japanese name brands. A premium package 1,850) combines the popular package with power windows, power body-color mirrors, power door locks with remote keyless entry, body-color door handles, and an alarm with panic feature. the accent gls sedan 12,925) comes with air conditioning and the six-speaker, 172-watt stereo, along with illuminated vanity mirrors and 185/65hr14 tires on 14-inch steel wheels. The sedan's popular equipment package 950) adds anti-lock brakes with electronic brake-force distribution, power windows with driver's express-down, power mirrors, power door locks, remote keyless entry, and an alarm with panic alert. The premium package 1,350) combines all of the above with 195/55vr15 tires on 15-inch aluminum wheels. the accent se coupe 14,575) comes with a sport-tuned suspension, abs with ebd, rear spoiler and wiper/washer, and p205/45vr16 tires on five-spoke aluminum wheels. The se also comes with all premium package features, plus fog lights, leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, metallic interior accents, express-down for the driver's-side window, seat-back pockets, and illuminated vanity mirrors. Manual-transmission models now come with a b&m sport shifter. Head restraints are adjustable at all five seating positions, unusual for this price class. New for 2008 is a tire-pressure monitor system that comes standard. walkaroundfar from cheap or plain, the hyundai accent looks elegant and substantial. The look starts at the front with integrated 5-mph bumpers and large aerodynamic headlight enclosures that wrap around the front fenders. Accent has a high roofline defined on either side by black rubber rain gutters, while the windshield blends into the front of the roof without any visible trim. A sharp character line originates just behind the front wheel opening and slashes boldly across the doors, fading again just short of the taillights. the back of the sedan roof sweeps toward the trailing edge of the trunk lid, giving it almost a coupe-like appearance. Unlike many modern cars, accent has a generous greenhouse with big windows; blacked-out trim both defines and unifies the side-window opening. We see a hint of volvo in accent's nose and maybe a dash of honda in its rear three-quarter view. the accent coupe has a look all its own, though it shares its front fenders and defining character line with the sedan. The differences begin with a more aggressive two-slot air opening that replaces the sedan's fine-lined horizontal grille, and ends with a rounded tail that takes the tentative reverse curve at the base of the sedan's roof, boldly widens it, and fuses it with the horizontally curving quarter panel. The two-door accent is unashamedly a hatchback, and makes no pretense to a separate trunk lid. not surprisingly, then, the coupe is as tall and wide as the sedan, and shares the sedan's 98. 4-inch wheelbase, but at 159. 3 inches overall it dispenses with a significant 9. 2 inches of the sedan's rear overhang. The result is one of the cutest little rears we've seen anywhere lately, and a short, sassy profile that looks like it should cost more than it does. on both coupe and sedan, a roof-mounted micro-antenna is aerodynamic, flexible, and said to improve signal strength. interiorone of the things we like best about the accent is its interior. Not only do those big windows provide a great view, but the hip point of the driver's seat is two inches higher than in pre-2006 accents, for a truly commanding perspective. Accent cabins feature a conservative two-tone color scheme reminiscent of larger cars, and are trimmed out quite nicely, helping avoid the feeling of an econobox. the dashboard wraps around to the door panels, and the center stack is nicely integrated, with large, well-positioned climate control knobs. Smaller fuel and coolant temperature gauges are set inside, along with a small lcd readout for the odometer and trip meter as well as gear-selection indicator for automatics. Among them: dampened grab handles, a thick roof lining, center folding front and rear armrests, a tilt steering wheel, a micro roof-mounted antenna, driver and passenger side-illuminated vanity mirrors, cabin air filtration, remote trunk and fuel cap releases, and a windshield shade band. There are decent-size pockets with a cup holder in each door. In addition, there are other storage places and a big glovebox. the rear seat splits 60/40 for additional storage capacity. For better rearward visibility, the three rear-seat headrests slide down shingle-style into the seatback when not needed. A fold out center armrest with two cupholders is provided for rear-seat passengers. rear-seat leg room and headroom is not too bad unless the car is full of six-footers. Getting into the back seats is made easier by locating the rear wheels farther back, so the wheelwell does not intrude into the sedan's door opening as much. compared to the sedan, the coupe surrenders less than a half inch of hip room up front, and less than an inch in the rear; otherwise it.
