It's much more comfortable and convenient, offering more cargo and rear-seat passenger space. Still, the traditional two-door wrangler has its charms, and we enjoy all of them. the 2010 wrangler has only minor changes, including a couple of new colors and some minor feature enhancements. There's an improved sunrider soft-top that is easier to remove, sahara and rubicon models have new alloy wheels, fog lamps and tow hooks are now standard on all models, the base sport models now have cloth upholstery, and there are other detail refinements. the wrangler is available in a very wide range of models and trim levels and with an extensive array of optional equipment and features. In all versions, the 3. 8-liter v6 engine develops 202 horsepower and 237 pound-feet of torque. The unlimited sport and unlimited sahara are available with rear-wheel drive (2wd) or 4wd. This is a jeep, after all, so the grab handle will be used on bouncy roads, or where there are no roads at all. the modular freedom top for the unlimited features sections that easily lift off and can be stored behind the rear seat. We found storing the two roof panels eliminates most of the cargo space. Cargo space is not unlimited in the unlimited. But it's a relative thing. Compared to earlier versions, the current model feels like a luxury liner. compared to the last-generation wrangler, the wheelbase is longer and the front and rear tracks are wider, the chassis has been stiffened and the suspension redesigned. All these things yield significant improvements in the ride and handling, but still, on city streets, the wrangler is pretty bouncy, and out on the freeway it can feel squiggly over pavement changes. Fold the rear seats and it can move two people and some serious cargo. turn off the pavement, and liberty can negotiate most trails with confidence. True, the liberty gives up some refinement and road agility to do this. It does not ride or handle as well as some of the other small suvs. But the liberty is among the best of the small sport-utilities for drivers who want serious off-road capability on the weekend yet need practicality and affordability during the week. the mid-range renegade looks the part, with its flatter hood, taller grille, off-road foglamps and taillamp guards. Renegade also features functional rock rails and skid plates. All-terrain tires are optional, as are gps navigation and an overhead light bar. but the economy-priced sport and luxury-grade limited models are plenty capable as well, and offer something the renegade does not: the only diesel engine available in a compact or mid-size suv. The front airbags, which come standard, are multi-stage and will deploy with less force during low-speed collisions or if t. walkaroundwith its seven-slat grille and round headlights, there's no question the liberty looks like a jeep. the liberty's body is tall, providing the driver with a commanding view of the terrain ahead. In its exterior dimensions, the liberty fits between the jeep wrangler and grand cherokee. With an overall length of 174. 4 inches, the jeep liberty is slightly longer than the ford escape. It's longer than the wrangler, but significantly shorter and lighter than the grand cherokee. the renegade model features a flatter hood that complements the traditional round jeep headlimps for a distinctive appearance reminiscent of the hardy old jeep cj3b of 1953-64. Freestanding fog lamps with black bezels, side sills to protect the body from road blast, tow hooks and a bright silver metallic applique across the body-color front fascia add to renegade's rugged appearance. Its roomy interior accommodates five passengers and a generous amount of cargo, with 29 cubic feet of usable space behind the second row of seats. Sitting in the liberty gives the driver a sense of spaciousness with 40. 7 inches of headroom, more than other suvs in this class. Drive anywhere with room for seven. introductionthe jeep commander can haul up to seven people and a lot of stuff just about anywhere it can fit. Several new features are available for 2007 as well. Among them: a rearview camera, a power liftgate, a remote starter, and active turn signals. In most states, the optional 4. 7-liter v8 can operate on gasoline or up to 85 percent ethanol. The rear seats are progressively stepped up, theater style, giving back-seat riders a view of the road. This feeling of airiness is enhanced by a pair of glass roof panels, though the third row is best reserved for 10-year-olds. utility comes in the form of a perfectly flat cargo floor when the rear two rows are folded down, providing nearly 69 cubic feet of cargo space. Those in the front seats enjoy a comfortable cabin, much of which is shared with the jeep grand cherokee. belied by the utilitarian styling, however, is the commander's responsiveness and agility. It handles surprisingly well for a tall, seven-passenger suv. On the highway, the commander is a notably smooth and comfortable cruiser, and we think it'd be a good choice for that cross country trip to yellowstone. Additionally, many limited and even overland convenience features are offered as either options or part of option packages on lower-cost models. safety features that come standard include side-curtain air bags with a roll detection system deploy in case. walkaroundbased on the grand cherokee, the jeep commander is the second-largest civilian-production jeep in history. (the largest was the j-120/j-130 gladiator pickup of the 1960s and '70s.) the commander is two inches longer and more three inches taller than the grand cherokee. The commander's stepped roofline makes headroom for the rear-seat passengers, but the stepped effect is camouflaged by a roof rack rail. the commander is instantly recognizable as a jeep, thanks to liberal use of jeep design cues, such as the seven-slot grille, trapezoidal wheel wells, and squared-off lines with flat surfaces. The assist handles are black with chrome inserts on limited, and black with platinum inserts on the overland. On top of the rear bumper is a diamond-plate-texture step pad. The pad's nonskid surface is helpful when stepping on the rear bumper to gain access to the roof of the vehicle for tying down kayaks, bicycles and other gear. jeep has reached deep into its heritage to revive the overland name. First built in 1903, the overland automobile was the earliest ancestor of the willys.
